The cottages will be open this Saturday to receive an expected rush of visitors for Paisley's famous Sma' Shot Day!
You can take a free tour (donations welcome) of the Sma' Shot Cottages between 12 and 4 and our tea room and shop will be open during those same hours.
Sma' Shot Day celebrates the triumph of Paisley's weavers in their fight for fair compensation. The dispute centered around the 'sma' shot' - a small cotton thread used to bind the colorful weft threads into the warps of Paisley's famous shawls. Although essential, this thread was invisible in the finished product, leading manufacturers (known as 'corks') to refuse payment for it. The weavers, forced to buy the thread themselves, fought back and eventually won their right to be paid for this vital work.
